As always, it’s been an eventful Easter Weekend here on the West Coast. It started off with a bit of media exposure about the flooding through the Haast Bar, but thankfully has wound up to be a beautiful and busy weekend in Franz Josef Glacier!
I’m sure you’ve all seen this image below, and unfortunately the Haast (Mueller) Bar/Hotel was flooded before the weekend. Everyone is okay, and the town is unaffected and up and running! It was mainly locals that lived in the flooded building that were terribly affected with the loss of personal items and now needing to find another place to stay! As a community we’ve all tried to be of as much help as possible in these tough times, it’s part of the beauty with living in such a small tightly knit community.
On a more positive note, the town has been busy and the weather cleared to make for a stunning long Easter Weekend! We’ve had lots of happy paddlers on the lake this weekend:
Due to the rainfall, we’ve had no Jetty to contend with when launching our trips:
And lastly we caught our guide Gethin snapping one of his infamous selfies for his ‘lucky’ group of paddlers 😉
We’re looking forward to the School Holidays coming up, and then we can unwind after a long and busy summer season! Paddling in the winter is amazing … And we’re really looking forward to it!
