The West Coast has just celebrated the opening our new bridge across the Waiho river! This is exciting news for Franz Josef Glacier and everyone else on the West Coast. It’s felt like a long few weeks of enduring the severed State Highway 6 road closure, but we can put this behind us now and look ahead to Easter and enjoy the Australian/NZ School Holidays! NZTA and the NZ Army have done a fantastic job getting a bridge in place so quickly, we’re really grateful.
Here’s a before and after of the bridge:
Since a couple of big storms at the end of March, we’ve enjoyed some fabulous weather. The West Coast has really turned it on for the first visitors coming into town since the bridge repairs. We’re also really grateful for all the tour buses that did come and stay regardless of the road closure. Those that made the journey to visit we’re certainly rewarded.
Here’s the view from the ‘office’:
And talk about a scenic back-drop for a cup of tea? This is the view we experience from our guided walk in the Kiwi Sanctuary. You’ll need to book a Cruise & Rainforest Walk to experience it for yourself.
It doesn’t get much better than this! This good weather keeps on coming too , it’s looking fine for the next week!
Before the storm struck us, we were celebrating our small company’s new Qualmark Silver Achievement. It’s something we’ve been towards for a while, and we will strive to continually meet and exceed the standards of customer service, safety and sustainability. This award will show up on our site shortly, as well on the Franz Josef Tours website (as they’ve just received it too!).
If you’re wondering what to do for the Easter Long Weekend, why not make your way over to West Coast and visit Glacier Country? We’ve got spaces available, and will be running Cruises, Fishing Charters and our Guided Walks multiple times per day. Booking is easy online HERE or email our friendly reservations team: info@glacierlaketours.co.nz
