The wild West Coast of New Zealand has certainly lived up to it’s name over the past few months. With almost daily rainfall, the rainforest and waterfalls have really come to life! Misty, moody lake scenery has been the norm and these days are often some of the most enjoyable days on the water. Lucky for us the Hanna-k is fully covered, so fishing can be enjoyed in any weather!
The fish don’t seem to mind what the weather is doing either! Salmon Season is in full swing now until March 31st! Trout can also be caught year-round. Catch and release, or keep for tea!
Two weeks ago we had a bit too much rain overnight, which created numerous slips on our sole Highway. This was a huge amount of work for the road teams to deal with. It meant that the highway was closed north for two weeks. Not the best way to start our busy season, but the road crew worked overtime and got everything open for us yesterday! We’re so thankful that this has come through before Christmas and we’ve also been gifted some much deserved sunshine.
We’re seeing White Herons feeding on the Lake at the moment, and some magical reflections on our morning trips. You can also book evening cruises to experience the famous golden hour on Lake Mapourika.
Spaces fill up quickly after Christmas. So don’t delay, book your spot today! BOOK HERE
