Summer has hit already!  Lake Mapourika is bustling with activity.  On any given day you’ll find happy kayakers with Franz Josef Tours, fishing trips and recreational boaters enjoying the sunshine and warm weather.

This post is all about our Scenic Cruise tours.  We offer two very different cruises but both are a scenic, relaxing and informative journey on Lake Mapourika.

First of all lets introduce our tour boat the Hanna-K.  The Hanna-K has been specifically designed for the west coast and couldn’t be better for what we do!

The cabin area provides a warm and comfortable environment, even on the West Coast’s wettest days!  The back deck of the boat is also covered, so you can enjoy the bird song and pristine views in all weather conditions as well.

Our favorite spot on the boat however is the front viewing platform which can be enjoyed as the boat is moving to experience the open water, or this platform can be skillfully maneuvered into the Lake’s shoreline for bird watching or rainforest photography.

With two types of Cruises on offer, there’s a trip for everyone!

We offer the Scenic Cruise  and the Cruise & Rainforest Trail.  The biggest difference between the two trips is the inclusion of a guided walk on the Cruise & Rainforest Trail tour.  The guided walk takes you through our rainforest track in the Kiwi Sanctuary which has been created by your Skipper and his team and is exclusive to our company.

You’ll learn about the local flora and fauna as you get a bit of exercise and stretch your legs after the boat trip across the lake.

The Scenic Cruise takes you on a tour to see the most beautiful spots, best birdwatching and also historical sites on Lake Mapourika.  This tour is great for photography lovers, birdwatchers or those just wishing to enjoy pristine views of the wild West Coast.
