OVERVIEW
Hire a stable inflatable Stand-up Paddleboard (SUP) and explore Lake Mapourika at your own pace. Glide across calm, reflective waters, steer through the sheltered shorelines, and soak in panoramic views of the Franz Josef Glacier region. This is the perfect way to enjoy a relaxed day on the water, whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned paddler.
During the summer months, the lake can reach over 20°C, so pack your togs and make a day of it, swim off the board, splash around with friends, or relax on the beach with a picnic. Keep your eyes peeled for native birdlife, including the elegant white heron (kōtuku), often seen along the shoreline.
Choose the hire length that suits your adventure:
- 1 Hour Hire: Perfect for a quick taste of the lake and a gentle paddle along the scenic shoreline.
- 2 Hour Hire: Gives you time to explore more of the sheltered bays and find your favourite quiet spots for photos or a swim.
- Custom Hire: If you’d like a different length of time, just get in touch — we’ll help you plan your perfect paddle.
If you’ve never used a SUP before, we recommend joining one of our Guided SUP Adventures first to get comfortable on the board.

WHO CAN JOIN
- We recommend that those keen to hire a SUP have some water confidence and can comfortably swim and manoeuvre in the water whilst wearing a PFD. PFD’s and SUP leashes must be worn the entire time you’re on your SUP Hire.
- If you’ve never tried Stand-up paddleboarding before, you might consider joining a Guided SUP Adventure with one of our experienced SUP guides!

FAQS
Will if I fall in?
Our inflatable SUP boards are extremely stable, but that being said there is always the chance that you may fall in particularly if you’ve never been out before. Luckily, during the summer months lake mapourika is very warm. You will be taught how to climb back onto your board in the event that you do accidentally fall in.
We also offer Guided SUP experiences, where you can learn the ropes with our experienced SUP instructors – this is a great option if it’s your first time!
Can I hire for less than 1 hour - just to try it?
Our minimum hire length is 1 hour, but if you’d like to finish early you are welcome to do so.
What instruction is provided?
We will provide basic instruction, including how to hold the paddle & how to mount and dismount the board safely from your stable knee position. We will also show you how to get back onto the board before you go.
If you’re after technical instruction, then you’re best to join a guided SUP tour.
CANCELLATION
We want you to be confident when you book directly with us! We provide hassle-free full refunds without any penalties. We do ask that any cancellations and changes are made a full 24 hours prior to the trip time. Cancellations made within the 24 hour time frame cannot be refunded (for any reason including medical or other) so please let us know in time if you need to change, or cancel your booking! Private/Group bookings or charters incur a 48 hour cancellation policy.
We reserve the right to cancel tours if minimum numbers are not met or in the event of unsafe conditions, in which case full refunds are issued.
